Mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, romanized: maṇḍala, lit. 'circle', [ˈmɐɳɖɐlɐ]) is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed to focus attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. In the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Shintoism it is used as a map representing deities, especially in the case of Shintoism, paradises, kami, or actual shrines. A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from the outside to the inner core, through layers. - Mandala. (2022, October 17). In Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandala
Arun sources the Mandala art from thenounproject.com . He transfers the digital file to a Laser machine called Snapmaker.
He then etches and cuts them onto hardwoods like Maple, Cherry, and Walnut boards that he sources from Canada. Kromm Design is a wonderful family-owned shop that produces these beautiful wooden planks from sustainable wood sources.
After the etch and cut, he assembles them as needed. Then he uses high-quality oil to bring out the wood grain as much as possible. After the oil dries, he applies multiple layers of water-based polyurethane to protect the coaster from minor scratches, water and other stains.
Our family uses these coasters every day. And we have delighted our friends and extended family by gifting them too.
The high quality materials, and process ensures that these beautiful pieces will delight every day and remind us of the beauty surrounding us.
Arun loves applying technology to arts and crafts.
